Looking for the best safari in Africa? Look no further than Zarafa Camp in Botswana, voted the ‘Best Safari Experience’ in Africa in the recent Safari Awards.
The 2016 Safari Awards were held recently with Zarafa Camp in Botswana winning for Best Safari Experience, Best Safari Cuisine, Best Design, and runner up for Best Community Focused Safari Property.
Great Plains Conservation’s Zarafa Camp in Botswana has long been a favorite property of Ker & Downey’s so it comes as no surprise that it won ‘Best Safari Experience’ in the recently held Safari Awards. The property is owned by award-winning National Geographic filmmakers, photographers, and explorers Dereck and Beverly Joubert, who have used the region as a backdrop for their films for over 25 years.
The goals at Zarafa Camp are simple: stellar customized service, minimal environmental footprint, and intimate commune with the natural surroundings and wildlife. It’s those goals and their commitment to them that continually position Zarafa Camp as one of the best safari experiences in Africa.
Located on the far eastern edge of the private 320,000-acre Selinda Reserve, Zarafa Camp is an intimate experience, with a maximum of eight guests in the camp at a time. It’s positioned on the edge of a lagoon, which draws a number of wildlife to the area so game viewing is excellent. Elephants come right up to camp, and at night, you can hear the grunts of hippos nearby.
Often times first-time safari goers head out on their first game drive and are disappointed to realize the camera equipment they’ve brought with them isn’t doing the trick to assist them in capturing those once-in-a-lifetime photos. Anticipating this, and with a nod to their experience as National Geographic photographers and filmmakers, the Jouberts have placed professional camera equipment in each tent for use while guests are staying at Zarafa Camp. In the evenings, you can download your images to a CD to take them home with you. It’s the best way to remember your best safari in Africa!
