Gifts that Give Back

Gifts that Give Back

After Thanksgiving, the Christmas shopping frenzy kicks off (or for some, picks up) with Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals. This time of year can leave shoppers stressed and wondering about the true value of a gift. In 2012 New York’s 92nd Street Y partnered with the United Nations Foundation to create Giving Tuesday, a day dedicated to giving back. At Ker & Downey, we’re committed to giving back at home and abroad to the communities in which we travel. You can read more about our efforts on our Philanthropy page. In the meantime, we’ve rounded up some gift ideas that give back to […]

The Good Trip

The Good Trip

A call to action from Ker & Downey’s President David Marek reveals just how easy it is to combine passion for travel in Africa with compassion for the people, wildlife and breathtaking lands cape of this great continent. Make a difference today. Protecting Africa’s Wildlife and Natural Resources My passion for African wildlife started in 1978 when I first flew over the Okavango Delta in a Cessna 206 and watched a herd of elephant trundle over the flood plains trailing a plume of dust. Seeing Africa for the first time instills in one the desire to preserve it for those […]

Ker & Downey President David Marek and his wife Gana are in Uganda this week handing out medications and insecticide-treated nets with the Nets for Africa Program. Check out his update below and continue to check back for updates throughout the week. Today we completed our first two-day program at our first church just down from Sipi Falls. I don’t know if it’s rumor or fact that Sipi Falls got its name when Stanley and Livingstone were exploring the Nile and found the falls.  Stanley, finding the waters of the falls looking so enticing said to Livingstone, “I’ve just got […]

Nets for Africa Reduces the “Sting” of Mosquito Bites

Nets for Africa Reduces the “Sting” of Mosquito Bites

For the past three years, Ker & Downey employees have worked to provide mosquito nets to communities in Uganda to reduce the life-threatening effects of a mosquito bite. This year the goal is set higher than any year before; distribute 18,000 nets to the communities most in need.
