Our August Travel Report by Sara Kramer, Ker & Downey’s Director of Marketing

August Travel Report

Can you believe it’s August already?

While some travelers are booking travel into 2022, we continue to see some book their journeys within weeks (or days!) of travel. Understandably, last minute travel appeals to those who worry about restrictions changing. Meanwhile, those who plan far in advance hope that restrictions and/or entry and exit requirements will wane between now and then. Regardless, there are quite a few countries open now that we are confident will remain open for U.S. travelers without risk of shutting down again.

The Best Places to Travel in March - Luxury Travel - Ker Downey- Italy

Where are people traveling right now?

In the past month, we have had travelers return from French Polynesia, Ecuador, Botswana, Iceland, Greece, Italy, Tanzania, Uganda, the Galapagos, Zambia, Mexico, Alaska, and South Africa. These are just a few of the countries that are open and yearning to see travelers.

What is more, we are noticing that the travelers who are returning from these countries are the same people that immediately turn around and book another trip! With one international travel destination under your belt, sometimes it feels easier to travel to another.

Plan Ahead – Animal migrations

Many people have an animal migration (or two!) on their bucket-list. Typically, migration experiences are best planned in advance in order to maximize your time and ability to see the migration up close. While there are many animal migration experiences, we are highlighting two that should be planned now.

Monarch butterflies, humpback whales, and gray whales all make their way to Mexico by December. It is an excellent time to experience the magic of Mexico’s wildlife up close and unhindered in Michoacan, Puerto Vallarta, Los Cabos, and Baja. If you time it right, you can experience three animal migrations at one time this year.

Or, perhaps the most famous migration is the great wildebeest migration in Kenya and Tanzania. While you can see the wildebeest migration at any point of the year, it is the treacherous Mara River crossing that is the most famous. Its picture-perfect moments and high concentrations of game offer an exciting and exhilarating adventure. The wildebeest cross the river anywhere from June to September. But, because of the limited number of properties in the area, space fills up fast, so it’s best to plan ahead for 2022 now.
