Our April Travel Report by Nicky Brandon, Ker & Downey’s Vice President of Sales and Business Development
April Travel Report
April travel proved to have yet another great month! We are continuing to see more people not just inquire about but book their travel to international destinations. South Africa continues to be our most popular destination. Closer to home, Alaska and Costa Rica have been at the top of mind for many people looking to travel this summer. Many of our travelers are booking within a month of departure, while still others are looking ahead toward the end of the year and into 2022.
Our April Travel Report continues with a few more countries that opened their travel borders or made announcements of their opening date in April. Iceland welcomed travelers back just in time to see the Fagradals Mountain volcano in southwest Iceland erupt. The eruption is still ongoing with predictions unknown for when it will stop. Our local partners say it has been a once-in-a-lifetime experience to see, and they are excited to see travelers back in the country.
Over the past several months we have had a number of travelers inquire about when Israel will be opening. We were excited to announce in our April Travel Report that Israel expects to welcome travelers back on May 23rd! Travelers must be fully vaccinated, have a negative PCR test before arrival, and submit to a serological test and PCR test on arrival at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv. These tests may no longer be required once Israel reaches a vaccine agreement with the United States; however, Israel would still require a proof of vaccination record on arrival to visit the country. The best time to visit this region is August to November or March to May when the weather is temperate and mild.
Continuing our April Travel Report: Greece announced this month that travelers who have proof of full COVID-19 vaccination at least 14 days prior to arrival in Greece do not need to present proof of a negative PCR test, which we think is a huge step forward. Along with Iceland, Israel, and Greece, France announced its hopes to ease travel restrictions for vaccinated travelers by this summer. Finally, airlines announced new flight routes from the United States to Croatia, Greece, and Iceland for this summer.
April Travel to Maldives with Qatar Airways
Our very own Tiffany Dunn recently returned from April travel to the Maldives. It was a quick trip hosted by Qatar Airways and One&Only Resorts. She had the pleasure of flying Qatar Airways via Doha to the Maldives and staying four nights at one of our recommended properties, One&Only Reethi Rah. I also had the privilege of flying Qatar Airways on my trip to South Africa in February. It was fabulous! I cannot recommend my experience enough. If you have been thinking about the Maldives, let us know. Tiffany had an extremely enjoyable trip and always delighted to share more.
As April proved to be a big month for travel, we know even more exciting things are on the horizon. As always, we are available to answer any questions you might have as the world continues to reopen to travel.
