Don’t we all just want to feel like a kid again? It’s an easy wish to fulfill when you plan a stay at one of these tree houses of Africa. Being a big kid never looked so luxurious, and we’re willing to bet your backyard tree house didn’t come fitted with a clawfoot bathtub or Egyptian cotton linens.

Singita Lebombo Lodge, South Africa

With a design inspired by an eagle’s nest, the award-winning loft-style tree house suites at Singita Lebombo Lodge sit perched high above the N’wanetsi River. You will feel in tune with nature among the soft Egyptian cotton textures, wood finishes, and steel interiors. From up top in the glass-enclosed rooms, you have a bird’s eye view of the foothills of the Lebombo Mountains and N’wanetsi River. There’s also an option to sleep out on your private deck under the stars.

The Tree Houses at Lion Sands , South Africa

It’s hard to talk about the world’s top luxury tree houses without including the three tree houses at Lion Sands: Chalkley’s, Kingston, and Tinyeleti. They are simply amazing. We’ve written about them before as one of the best places to sleep out under the stars. The three tree houses are each different, but all are ultra-luxe, completely private, and hard to replicate elsewhere in the world. If a stay at one of these tree houses isn’t on your bucket list, we bet it is now.

Kanana, Botswana

Located in the remote reaches of the Okavango Delta, but just close enough to camp for you to feel comfortable, Kanana’s sleep out tree house is the best way to experience the vast African night sky. It overlooks a waterhole that is home to hippo, crocodile, and a variety of bird life during the annual rains. In the dry season, once the water recedes, the plains host a variety of game day and night.

Tongabezi, Zambia

Tongabezi’s secluded tree house is expansive and luxurious. Set among the branches of three ebony trees overlooking the Zambezi River, the tree house’s facade is completely open to take in those stunning views of the river. Its king-sized bed is draped in mosquito netting and the bathroom’s claw foot tub is perfectly positioned to soak in the scenery (and the suds). Plus its location near Victoria Falls makes it even more of a tempting choice.
