Every Ker & Downey itinerary is designed to leave the traveler transformed, and this special journey is no exception. Join WildAid founders Peter and Corie Knights from June 14-26, 2017, as they visit important conservation projects in Kenya and Tanzania on our exclusive WildAid safari.
This private and intimate safari will bring you up close to some of the world’s most majestic and threatened wildlife. Complete with celebrated accommodations and private charters, your journey is both meaningful and magnificent. On this trip you will visit WildAid’s partner projects on the ground and participate in hands-on experiences side-by-side with Peter Knights, CEO of WildAid.
Begin the 13-night WildAid safari in Tanzania, staying at Oliver’s Camp in Tarangire National Park. Learn about the anti-poaching work being done by the Tanzania police, and discover how community leaders are working to reduce instances of human and elephant conflict in rural areas. The elephants here have become mainly resident with large breeding herds of up to 400 in number.
Next is the Laikipia region of Kenya and Ol Pejeta Bush Camp. Among your safari excursions here is a visit to East Africa’s largest rhino sanctuary. You will share your space with the last three surviving northern white rhino in the world—an undoubtedly moving experience.
On June 19 you will continue to the Ol Jogi Private Wildlife Conservancy, a place that showcases the many splendors of northern Kenya: its wildlife, its landscape, and its people. Ol Jogi is home to endangered black rhinos, Grevy’s zebra, elephant, lion, cheetah, and plenteous plains game. Visit Ol Jogi’s Wildlife Rescue Center and veterinary clinic for the care and rehabilitation of injured wildlife. You also have the chance to explore the region on a helicopter safari, on horseback rides, and on unique baboon walk with a private guide.
Masai Mara is next on the WildAid safari, enjoying three nights at Mara Plains Camp within the Olare Motorogi Conservancy. Learn about the projects of Great Plains Conservation helmed by Dereck and Beverly Joubert, award-winning wildlife photographers, filmmakers, and passionate conservationists.
After one night in tented luxury at Mahali Mzuri, transfer to Nairobi and the Giraffe Center. Feed the giraffe, visit the nature trail, and talk with African Fund for Endangered Wildlife staff about their efforts. Spend the evening at Hemingways, a lovely plantation-style home, before your final day of the journey. In the morning, meet Daphne Sheldrick and the babies at the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage. Witness the work of the team that cares for the orphaned elephants and rhino calves.
Since 2000, WildAid has been committed to ending the demand for illegal wildlife products. Celebrities like HRH Prince William, Yao Ming, Lupita Nyong’o, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jackie Chan, and Maggie Q support their message across the world. WildAid has a perfect 100% rating on Charity Navigator, a ranking given to less than 1% of other charities.
