At Ker & Downey, we believe that people matter. It’s the people who make up this incredible company who work to make your journey truly memorable. Over the course of the next year, we’ll be introducing you to the people that make up Ker & Downey. You can also read more about us here.
Tiffany DeSalvo realized her passion for travel at the young age of 11 when after numerous lemonade stands and front yard craft sales she finally raised the money to fly herself to Portland Oregon to visit a friend who had moved away years earlier. She loved exploring the city, its people, and its diverse landscapes. After graduating from Texas A&M and working for a design firm for a few years, she got the itch to explore the world and moved to a small Tuscan hillside town in Italy for a year. Upon her return to Texas, she joined the Ker & Downey team and has since expanded her travel portfolio to include Dubai, South Africa, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Tanzania, Nepal, Turkey, and the Seychelles. She’s also traveled to Central America and most of Europe and takes joy in sharing her passion for travel with others.
Favorite place you’ve traveled: There are far too many amazing places in our world to choose a favorite, but my top picks include Botswana, Italy, and Nepal.
Favorite city and why: I don’t like picking favorites, but I do really love Cape Town – it has mountains, beaches, wineries, excellent food, great art, and wonderful people…what more could you want in one place?!
What is the best thing about traveling: The people. Understanding that while the world is far bigger than the bubble I live in, as humans we are all deeply connected by and rooted in similar values and ideas. Meeting people from around the world keeps me grounded, open-minded, and very thankful for all the ways I have been blessed.
Travel accessory you can’t live without? Packing cubes – my bag would be a mess without them!
Favorite plane ride activity: Reading and catching up on movies I’ve missed. I’ve got the sleeping on a plane thing down pretty good too.
Top of my travel bucket list: This changes weekly for me, possibly even daily. On my current bucket list are Iceland, Egypt, Burma, and trekking to Machu Picchu.
Beach or mountains: Why not both? If I must choose, I’d have to go with the mountains.
How do you take your coffee? Black – I like to keep it simple.
My theme song is: “Don’t worry, be happy”
Any pets? I have a child in the form of a small white dog if that counts
Something I said I’d never do but did anyway was: I never say never, but I doubted I would ever up and move to another country, which I did for a year.
Two things I can’t live without are: Dear friends/family and my Burt’s Bees pomegranate lip balm.
It’s Sunday morning at 10 a.m. If I’m not sleeping, I’m: Enjoying some quiet time with a good book or out on a run.
My favorite physical activity is: Yoga
The first thing I do when I wake up is: Have a devotional time with my Bible and notebook – it sets the foundation for my day.
The last concert I went to was: I’m a huge fan of live music, so I make it to local shows anytime I can. The last small live show I saw was Buxton, but my most recent official concert was Ray Lamontagne.
My favorite TV show to watch as a kid was: I have a hard time sitting down and watching TV so I don’t watch many shows.
If I could instantly learn a new language, I would learn: I learned Italian while living there, but I would love to instantly speak Spanish without always reverting back to Italian in confusion.
On my nightstand (what you’re reading now): Oh gosh, I have a stack….Acts of Faith by Philip Caputo, Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer, The Elephant Whisperer by Lawrence Anthony, Holy is the Day by Carolyn Weber, and Io e Te by Niccolò Ammaniti to name a few.
