Our Kenya Riding Safari is just one of our exciting new horseback riding adventures we’re pleased to offer our clients. Over the course of the next few weeks, we’ll explore the new journeys and the guides leading them, starting with Annie Waterer and Paul Thuku, Ride Manager and Head Guide of our Kenya Riding Safari.

Our Kenya Riding Safari explores Chyulu Hills and the wildlife that call the region home. On this journey, you’ll venture through forests, craters, and underground lava tubes tracking buffalo, leopard, syke’s monkey, and forest hogs, returning to the campfire of ol Donyo Fly Camp to exchange bush stories and unwind. Each day includes four to six hours of horseback riding and is recommended for intermediate and advanced riders. Our Kenya Riding Safari is available year round and is led by manager and expert guide Annie Waterer and Paul Thuku.

Annie Waterer – Manager

Born and raised in England to Kenyan parents, and having spent days horseback riding through England’s east coast, a managing a Kenya riding safari comes pretty naturally to Annie. With a passion for horses that runs through her veins, she spent time traveling through New Zealand and Australia, paying for food and her bed by training horses and herding cattle. After graduating with a degree in Biology from University in Bristol, she headed to Kenya, where she had spent holidays visiting her grandparents. She spent many months riding around the Maasai Mara before arriving at Chyulu Hills in 2013. She instantly fell in love with the people and the ol Donyo horses. Now she is happy combining her two passions with the Kenya Riding Safari: horses and the incredible flora, fauna, and African landscape.

Paul Thuku – Head Guide

What began as a construction job on a small riding school in Nairobi launched a career in Kenya riding safaris for Paul. He fell in love with the gentle animals and was offered a job working with them after the school was completed. His natural ability with the horses was evident and he was asked to join the team leading safaris in Chyulu Hills ten years ago. He is a KPSGA Bronze Award guide and his profound knowledge of the area, horsemanship, and love of the wildlife make each safari special.
