At Ker & Downey, we believe that people matter. It’s the people who make up this incredible company who work to make your journey truly memorable. Over the course of the next year, we’ll be introducing you to the people that make up Ker & Downey. You can also read more about us here.

Vanessa, our Operations Coordinator, has always loved to travel but says the travel bug really hit her after joining the Ker & Downey team six years ago. With us, she traveled to Dubai, South Africa, and Namibia. Her favorite parts of the trip were dune bashing in Dubai, shark cage diving in Gansbaai, seeing the Big Five in the Sabi Sand and the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to go for a swim in the usually dry Sossusvlei Pan.

Favorite place you’ve traveled: Japan

Favorite city and why: New York City – It is such an amazing amalgamation of cultures, from around the country and the globe. Every time I visit, I discover something new, and I always want to go back.

What is the best thing about traveling: Being out of pocket and not having to worry about chores and “real world” responsibilities

Favorite plane ride activity: Discovering new and more uncomfortable positions to fall asleep in

Top of my travel bucket list: Antarctica! I’ve been to 2 countries where penguins live naturally, and I still haven’t seen any in the wild. I will happily go to the ends of the earth in crazy snow gear just to see them.

Two weeks + and unlimited budget, where are you going? The United Kingdom – There is so much historical touring to do, and I want to see it all!

Any pets? Two cats who hate each other, Mirabelle and Ash, and two goldfish, Hall and Oates

It’s Sunday morning at 10 a.m. If I’m not sleeping, I’m: probably eating bacon and watching Sunday morning cooking shows.

The last concert I went to was: Nine Inch Nails and Soundgarden – After all these years, they both still sound amazing.

My favorite TV show to watch (or toy to play with) as a kid was: I can answer both in one go – it had to be Jem, the awesomely 80’s cartoon/Hasbro’s way cooler answer to Barbie.

On my nightstand (what you’re reading now): Tolkien’s The Fall of Arthur, Neil Stephenson’s Quicksilver, and a pile of comics I picked up at this year’s free comic book day
