Joy's Camp is located in the undulating hills of the Shaba Game Reserve, mere footsteps from a natural spring. Named for acclaimed author and naturalist Joy Adamson, the camp is built on the site of her tented home and helps bring the scenes she crafted in her novels to life.

Joy’s Camp comprises just 10 luxury tented suites, each set on raised platforms to take full advantage of the views of the hills and the spring. Within the walls of canvas, artisan glass and colorful textiles from local nomadic tribes mingle alongside authentic “Borana” African details with chic decor. Permanent en-suite baths are private havens of luxury featuring stone floors, flush toilets, and hot running water to ensure that no modern convenience is overlooked. Lounge in the comfort of the large bedroom or take in the surrounds from the furnished private verandah of each suite.

Dining is a private experience at Joy’s Camp, with staff happy to arrange special breakfasts along the Ewaso Nyiro River or romantic candlelit meals under the stars. Fresh, homemade dishes are influenced by local and Italian flavors, and a constant view of the springs often means guests enjoy a show from the wildlife during their meal. Set in the eastern corner of the Samburu ecosystem, Joy’s Camp in Shaba National Reserve benefits from all of the diverse wildlife highlights of the main park without the heavy traffic of tourists. Skilled guides welcome guests to embark on game drives and walks in search of the reserve’s varied species, including lion, elephant, reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Besia oryx, and massive herds of buffalo. Alternatively, guests are welcome to simply stay back at Joy’s Camp and soak up the sun at the camp’s refreshing swimming pool, set off to visit the local communities, or the experience the fascinating Joy Adamson Museum to learn more about her pioneering role in wildlife conservation.
