Set on a private conservation just outside of the Masai Mara Game Reserve, Saruni Mara in the Masai Mara Conservancy was established by a group of friends that shared a passion for the beauty of Africa. This tented Kenya camp is located in a remote valley and is based on a concept of providing a real African adventure together with the highest standards of luxury accommodation and service.
Property Details
Saruni Mara in the Masai Mara Conservancy accommodates twelve guests in six large permanent cottages designed by Kenyan architect Mark Glen. Each cottage features unique décor, including colonial antiques, Persian rugs, and African art. The cottages of Saruni Mara are designed to instill the feeling of safety and comfort of a permanent lodge while still providing the up close and personal contact with nature of a tented Kenya camp. A particularly delightful feature is the option to open the canvas front of the bathroom to enjoy a “shower with a view”, as well as the chance to view game directly from the cedar bed and spacious veranda as animals traverse freely across camp grounds.
Kuro House, the common dining area of Saruni Mara, combines modern and old-fashioned African design, and the large fireplace serves as a communal area for guests to discuss their day’s adventures. Cuisine is Italian-inspired and makes creative use of local, organic produce. In addition to dining in the main area, guests can also take meals in the bush or arrange for a special candlelit dinner on their veranda.
Activities at Saruni Mara and vast and plentiful. Day and night game drives are taken in open Land Rovers that provide maximum visibility and are accompanied by a professional guide and tracker. For avid bird watchers, guides are more than happy to help identify the more than 500 species that live in the Mara. Enjoy a game walk with Maasai warriors to explore the area up close, as well as cultural visits to see how the Maasai live and to better understand these fascinating people. When not taking part in safari activities, spend some time in the Saruni Mara’s unique library, which houses a large collection of rare books. Alternatively, visit the Maasai Wellbeing Space for massage and beauty treatments that combine the techniques of the famous Italian spa Centro Benessere Stresa with ancient Maasai knowledge of local ingredients. Treatments are performed by highly trained specialists in a space featuring an open view of the forest, where game freely roams.
