A romantic getaway for Anne turned into an engagement story to remember!

This past summer, I enjoyed one of my favorite trips to Africa. Although it was my fifth trip to Tanzania and seventeenth trip to Africa as a whole, this trip may have been the most memorable of my life. I got engaged to marry the most wonderful man and here’s the bonus: he loves traveling as much as I do!

We flew to Tanzania via Istanbul, arriving in the middle of the night. Fortunately we had two nights in Arusha as we really needed that first full day in town to relax at the lovely Legendary Lodge. From there, we flew to Tarangire where we stayed at Oliver’s Camp. The first night in camp, we went on an afternoon game drive. After seeing tons of elephants and other game, we headed back to the lodge for dinner. As we came over a small hill onto the savanna as the sun was setting, I saw a table with a Masai blanket on it and a bottle of champagne with two glasses. I immediately knew was what happening and started crying with excitement. It was truly surreal… to have one of the most memorable moments in your life to happen in my favorite place in the world… Africa.

From there, we went to the Ngorongoro Crater Lodge where we were guided by my old friend from Sand Rivers Selous, Peter Ketuta. We saw tons of game and really enjoyed the beauty of the lodge. We then flew to Namiri Plains where we must have seen one hundred lions and quite a few cheetah. Then we flew to Ubuntu, a migratory camp which was in Grumeti in June. The migration had not arrived yet, but it was exciting to see a pack of wild dogs. Last, we went to Mwiba River Lodge which was phenomenal… the perfect end to the perfect trip!
