Itinerary Description:
Begin your Colonial Colombia and islands adventure in Bogota which is rich in historical treasures and buzzing nightlife. The Four Seasons Bogota is your base for exploring the markets and learning more about the impressive food culture during your travel to Colombia. Shop for local ingredients and learn to prepare a traditional meal in a cooking class. Wander through an old barrio of Spanish colonial homes with heavy wood doors, pretty balconies, and hidden gardens.
During your travel to Colombia, admire the beautiful landscape known for its flower production as you make your way to Villa de Leyva. This tiny town was founded in 1572 and its beautiful plaza and cobblestone streets are a delight to explore.
After a short stay at the Hotel Casa Terra you will continue to the Caribbean coast and the city of Cartagena. Step back in time in the Hotel Casa San Agustin and from there explore the old churches of the city, and sample the food that blends both African and Spanish flavors. Learn about the fortress that once protected against pirates and meet with local artisans still making traditional crafts.
Take a trip further into the crystal sea of the Caribbean to San Andres Island’s Hotel Casa Harb, where an underwater world of vibrant corals and school of colorful fish beckons snorkelers. Back on land, it is believed that Welsh pirate Henry Morgan left behind buried treasure somewhere on this island of coconut plantations and seaside caves.
A short hop over takes you to Providencia Island where you will stay at Deep Blue for the remainder of your luxury travel to Colombia. A boat will take you to the hidden bays of this UNESCO-protected biosphere. Enjoy this final stop of your exploration of colorful Colombia and its islands. This is an island paradise with immense natural beauty of corals, bays, beaches, and lush rainforests filled with the song of tropical birds.
