There aren't many places where you can get so close to elephants in the wild, but Mfuwe Lodge is one of the most enchanting.
Property Details
The award-winning Mfuwe Lodge is located in a prolific game area, and one species in particular makes it extra special. A group of local elephants parade through the lobby every autumn, lured by a nearby mango tree. It’s quite the sight to see them munching on the luscious fruits, especially when there is a baby elephant in tow, its mother nudging it forward with her grand trunk.
Arranged around the banks of two lagoons and nestled under a canopy of ebony and mahogany, 18 air conditioned chalets welcome you to the wilderness. Parents, bring the whole family along; there are three chalets fit for families. Mfuwe Lodge is your own private piece of Africa. Chill out in your comfortable sitting room and get prepped in the en suite bathroom with a walk-in shower, warmed up by solar power.
You will find the lounge, dining area, and bar in the central lodge under a thatched roof. The swimming pool is surrounded by a timber deck overlooking the lagoon.
Aside from the elephant parades, an endless stream of wildlife around Mfuwe Lodge can be seen from your spot on the open deck. Giraffes, hippos, buffalo, antelope, and crocodile are constant visitors to the lagoon. You might even spot the spots on an elusive leopard.
Activities range from walking safaris to game drives giving you the opportunity to explore the Luangwa Valley. With experienced Mfuwe Lodge guides, you will set out at first light and then head out again in the late afternoon when the wildlife is most active. The fun doesn’t stop in the evenings either. After sundowners, guides use spotlight to shed light on a cast of nocturnal characters.
For encounters of the human kind, head to the local village to chat with the people and buy textiles and handicrafts from the market. Or just chill out in the Mfuwe Lodge spa as the hippos do the same, yawning in the lagoon beyond.
