Property Details

Luwi Bush Camp in Zambia consists of four huts, each made of grass and a thatch roof that provides shade over the bar area. The rooms, which are built each season using natural materials, blend into the bush and offer comfort of en-suite bathrooms, hot showers, and relaxing beds.

Daytime meals are served in the shade of the trees with a view of the grassy plain that normally attracts an abundance of wildlife, while dinner is taken under the stars accompanied by the many sounds of the African night. There is a large lagoon adjacent to the camp that teems with hippo and crocodile. This permanent water source attracts game from far and wide, making the camp area constantly busy with animals.

Luwi Bush Camp is one of the camps situated deepest in the Luangwa wilderness, lending the camp a rustic appeal and providing a truly African bush experience. Since there are very few roads in this area of the Park, the emphasis at Luwi is on walking safaris. Experience a walking safari and stop by a local Zambian village to meet the people or visit the school and children. Zambians are well known for their warmth and welcoming nature and are always pleased to meet and show guests around their village.

Luwi Bush Camp: Return to the Wild

For those with a truly adventurous spirit, Norman Carr’s Return to the Wild overnight safari is one of the wildest experiences the South Luangwa has to offer. Armed with only a bedroll and a mosquito net, guests venture out from camp on foot in the mid afternoon with a guide and scout team to find a camping spot in the remote Luwi dry riverbed.  After a game rangers dinner and sharing stories around the fire, retreat the bedroll and drift to sleep while the millions of stars shine brightly overhead. This is a night under the stars one never forgets.
