Property Details

Accessible only by helicopter or water taxi, Tutka Bay Lodge is authentic Alaska through-and-through. Even the water transfer from Homer promises a plethora of water bird, sea otter, Orca, and Humpback sightings. As the shore comes into focus, Tutka Bay’s main lodge and six bayside cabins stand proudly amid their natural environment of rugged coastline, dramatic mountains, spruce forests, and deep fjords. Rustic and romantic, the cottages feature their own unique floor plans and views of the surrounding terrain. While different in layout, each embodies the same standard of bucolic luxury, as exemplified in details of rocking chairs, ceramic French-style heaters, wood-burning stoves, spiral staircases, drinking water dispensers, private viewing decks, and spacious en-suite bathrooms.

From the cabins, the adjoining boardwalk leads guests to the fjord-facing main lodge, where Chef Kirsten Dixon and her staff are hard at work preparing fresh Alaskan cuisine. On the menu are daily wine and cheese tastings, as well as delicious culinary musings featuring the state’s famous seafood from neighboring oyster farms and salmon fishermen and homegrown seasonal vegetables and berries. Tutka Bay Lodge is passionate about local Kachemak Bay ingredients and encourages guests to experience them first-hand, whether by fishing for their meals from rocking chairs on the wharf, enjoying seaside lunches amid the wilderness, or creating their own three-course meals in the renowned Cooking School across the bay.

The activities of Tutka Bay Lodge are dedicated to introducing guests to a kaleidoscope of Alaskan treasures, be it the artist’s community of Halibut Cove, the dense rainforests of Kachemak Bay State Park, or the fascinating tide pools of starfish, sea urchins, mussels, and anemone gardens freckling the shore. The region is a playground of fjords, glaciers, mountains, and marine life, ideal for the adventurous spirit. At the lodge’s doorstep is the seven-mile Tutka Bay fjord, which extends into the glaciers of the Kenai Mountains and the massive Harding Ice Field and offers spectacular kayaking, hiking, glacial trekking, wildlife viewing, and flight-seeing experiences. However, nothing beats bear viewing along the Katmai Coast, the habitat of one of the largest natural concentrations of brown bears in the world. After a day of adventure in the wild frontier, return back to Tutka Bay Lodge for the rejuvenating solitude of a complimentary massage, the wood-fired banya, and the open-air Jacuzzi. From beginning to end, Tutka Bay Lodge strives to instill a sense of wonderment and respect for the multifaceted beauty of wild Alaska.
