Property Details
Staying at Howie’s HomeStay means having the entire flawless resort for your private and personal enjoyment. The owners and hosts, Howie and Jerri, spent seven years and millions of dollars creating this oasis of open-air pavilions, lush romantic gardens, and Royal Thai Lanna styled villas, and now they are opening their home for exclusive use. Designed by the “king of exotic resorts” Bill Bensley—named one of the Top 100 Architects in the world by Architectural Digest—Howie’s HomeStay is a collection of grand peaked pavilions surrounding large, turquoise pools and landscaped gardens of bamboo and fir trees. Each pavilion houses its own tucked-away accommodation, including a large three-bedroom house for families and a romantic stand-alone villa with outdoor bathtub and lily pond views. From the hand-carved doors and authentic Asian artifacts to the Burmese antique beds and glass-enclosed baths, every detail is impeccably presented and executed.
Howie’s HomeStay sits on five acres of walled lush tropical gardens in the foothills of the Himalaya Mountains, masterfully complementing the rice paddies landscape with its Thai styled architecture. Given that guests have the property completely to themselves, they are encouraged to spend time as they wish, hanging out in the living room, swimming in the pool, and socializing with the hosts. A major part of the Howie’s HomeStay experience is Howie himself, who loves regaling guests with his travel tales and Thailand tips and sharing in meals prepared by his wife, Jerri, around the teak dining table. Each meal is a seven- to nine-course feast featuring some of the best authentic Thai food in the country, lauded by guests and chefs alike.
The surrounding countryside of Howie’s HomeStay is an exotic and colorful region of jungle clad hills, fertile valleys, and ancient temples. While it may feel a lifetime away from Thailand’s urban centers, Howie’s HomeStay places its guests within striking distance to all of the wonders of Chiang Mai. Visit the local hill tribes, trek through Doi Suthep National Park, try bamboo rafting down the river, indulge in a traditional in-room Thai massage, and shop along the local market stalls for home decor, antiques, and local creations. No matter the activity, Howie’s HomeStay is an ideal destination for Thailand honeymoons, multi-generational family reunions, and get-togethers among friends looking for a private getaway in the northern Thai countryside.
