Property Details

Stepping aboard the Eastern & Oriental Express is like stepping back in time. Four types of elegant cabins act as stylish sanctuaries for guests, transforming from private lounges during the day into plush bedrooms at night. All compartments are fully air-conditioned and feature every amenity expected of a five-star luxury hotel, including en suite bathrooms, 24-hour steward service, and picture windows for watching the scenery unfold beyond.

The 28 State Cabins offer double the floor space as the standard Pullmans. Two Presidential Cabins each occupy half of one train car for the ultimate high-end travel experience.

Life aboard the Eastern & Oriental Express is the epitome of class and comfort. Guests wake to daily in-cabin breakfast deliveries of croissants, fruit, and coffee, and linger over Afternoon Teas taken at any time of their choosing. At the rear of the Eastern & Oriental Express is the colonial-style, teak-wood Observation Car where an open-air deck provides the perfect vantage point to take in the passing, ever-changing panoramas. Leisure time can also be spent in the Saloon Car with its wide selection of books, games, and local mementos for purchase.

Eventually, it will be time to take a seat in one of the Eastern & Oriental Express’s two Restaurant Cars, Rosaline and Malaya. White table linens and exquisite crystal serve as the canvas for a delectable variety of seasonally alternating Eastern and Western specialties, from pan-fried sea scallops to Nyonya curries. Come evening, retreat to the convivial atmosphere of the Bar Car, where Singapore Pete croons on the piano and cocktails are served with a healthy dose of socialization.

The route of the Eastern & Oriental Express follows the passage inspired by the 1932 classic film, Shanghai Express, through Malaysia’s Straits of Johor up the Malay Peninsula, pausing amid the Moorish splendor of Kuala Lumpur and the colorful cuisine of Penang to eventually reach the history and elegance of Singapore. Along the way, guests have the opportunity to disembark for guided excursions at each destination, whether river cruises, temple visits, or vineyard tours. No matter the destination, Eastern & Oriental Express promises an unforgettable journey through Southeast Asia.
