Activities on Rubondo Island are as varied as they are exciting. Safari vehicles ferry guests through the thick forest in search of elusive bushbuck, vervet and colobus monkeys, giraffe, and elephant. North of camp, hike through the jungle habitat of around 40 unhabituated chimpanzees whose ancestors were rescued from zoos and circuses and released on the island in the 1960s. Birdlife abounds with fish eagles, herons, and finches among the hundreds of species spotted in the jungle and on boating tours around the island. Fish for Nile perch by boat or on the shore, or take in the brilliant colors of the island’s sunsets on a private sundowner cruise.
