Mapula Lodge's blissfully-uncrowded tented camp welcomes guests into its fantastic world of glassy lagoons and palm-fringed islands in the Okavango Delta.

Property Details

Feel right at home at Mapula Lodge, where trumpeting elephants and hippos are your neighbors in this delightful corner of Botswana. In the middle of all this beauty, on a large tree island surrounded by flood plains, sits the exclusive lodge. The area has only a handful of camps, making it short on crowds and enhancing its natural appeal.

While its surrounds are quiet, Mapula Lodge is packed with character. Chic brass lanterns, Malawi chairs, quirky elephant lamps, and red rugs add visual interest. Metal four-poster beds are topped with plush pillows, a welcome destination after days spent on safari. Freshen up in your en-suite bathroom’s indoor and outdoor showers.

Cooling off in the hot Delta afternoons is a must. Soak in the swimming pool just like the hippos do in the adjacent lagoon, or you could lounge on one of the very colorful sofas topped with patterned pillows. Woven basket lighting hangs from the thatched ceiling to add both light and interest.

Since this is a game rich concession, there are ample opportunities to get up-close without a hoard of other tourists flying by packed into 4x4s. Glide through tranquil waterways with floating lilies on a mokoro. Crocodiles bask on the banks and buffalo congregate en masse. The guides here are top notch and will easily point out the small details of the land. Salty egrets, Pel’s fishing owls, and African skimmers are some of the birds you will see. Roam on land with your guide in search of lions, leopards, cheetahs, and rare sitatunga antelopes.
Enjoy a gin and tonic and watch the evening show. The sunset is a sizzling sight as it drops over the watery plains. Soar over the land in a helicopter or float in the clouds in a hot air balloon as a group of zebras prance through the grass down below.
To preserve this special environment, Mapula Lodge runs on 80-percent solar power and grey water is re-used. The staff at the property all live in the surrounding communities and give guests a real feeling that they are truly immersed in this special place.
