We love Botswana and sharing it with everyone we can. Recently Ker & Downey’s Evan Jones had to the opportunity to travel there for a safari in the Okavango Delta, Moremi Game Reserve, and the Kalahari. He is sharing the highlights from his trip with us below.
Where were you? I went to Botswana and was in the Delta for the most part; Shinde, Footsteps, Kanana, and Okuti in the Moremi game reserve. I also went to Dinaka in the Kalahari.
Highlight of the trip? Many, but I think the most unique experience was being on a mokoro at twilight visiting the Heronry at Kanana. A very still, quiet, and intimate experience that felt unique to Botswana and the delta.
Favorite Activity? If you go you’ll do everything: walking experiences, game drive, mokoro, and motorboat rides. All included, but one activity to add that’s not included, would be the small helicopter ride. It is like a safari vehicle in the air. The sides are open and because it has a gas engine, it is quieter than the larger jet engine helicopters. This gave the whole experience one extra layer of perspective and adventure to the included activities.
Anything else you want to add? Pack light. For me, it made everything so much smoother just having essentials in a carry-on. No one ever dresses up, so casual and comfortable is perfectly fine at all times. The Ker & Downey Botswana properties have done such an excellent job of blending into the environment that it would be a shame to not pare down in a similar fashion.
