Luxury Egypt getaways with Ker & Downey allow you to explore the ancient culture’s hub in Cairo and the surrounding area on a shorter timetable. Both of our Egypt getaways pack in history and luxury for a perfect quick trip before the holiday rush hits.
Egypt is a Ker & Downey favorite destination, and we have selected two luxury Egypt getaways that are enjoyable as a first visit, or even for someone who has been to the country before and wants to gain a richer understanding of the area. The first centers around Cairo, home of the ancient Egyptian culture. You’ll spend five days exploring the city and surrounding area with a private Egyptologist. A full day is spent taking in the Pyramids – from the Great Pyramids of Giza to Memphis and Sakkara – the first Pyramid, a stepped structure built for King Djoser.
You’ll have another day to take in Egypt’s great history and culture at the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities where you can get lost among the treasure trove of rare Egyptian pieces of art, history, and symbols. Many of the artifacts from King Tut’s tomb, along with his golden coffin and mask, are housed here. Then, head to the famed Khan el Khalili Marketplace, Egypt’s oldest marketplace and one of the best places to enjoy color, bargains, and people.
A trip to Egypt wouldn’t be complete without a little relaxation and the Four Seasons Nile Plaza is just the place to soak in a little luxury before your quick trip comes to a close. The spa at the Four Seasons Nile Plaza is the largest of its kind and offers a range of treatments to pamper you.
On our second Egypt getaway, you’ll have a full day to explore Cairo with a private Egyptologist. Take in the incredible Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx nearby before heading to the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities for an in depth look at the ancient civilization.
Then you’ll head to Fayoum, Egypt’s oldest city and one of the most ancient in all of Africa. It’s one of Egypt’s best-kept secrets – an oasis of shimmering sand flats and pristine desert. While there, you’ll stay at the lavish Lazib Inn, set within the village and nearby the shores of the world’s oldest nature reserve on Lake Qaroun. With exceptional cuisine, sparkling pools, and incredible spa treatments, it’s setting a new standard of luxury in the desert.
While there, you can enjoy horseback rides on Arabian steeds, desert safari excursions into the sand dunes, trips to the nearby Wadi El Rayan to discover the ancient fossils or the “Valley of the Whales” where you can see 40-million year old whale skeletons. For more relaxing excursions, consider a trip to the uninhabited Spring Oasis or sailing on the Qaroun Lake aboard a felucca. And if you are a birding enthusiast, you will be happy to know that the area is regarded as the best place in Egypt for birding.
