Property Details
Since the 1920s, Huka Lodge has been touted as the quintessential New Zealand retreat. Room interiors balance the beauty of the region with modern luxuries, each appointed with monogrammed linens and calming natural colors, exhibiting understated luxury that takes a backseat to the uniquely beautiful surroundings. Ample windows welcome the natural light and color of the landscaped grounds and provide an uninterrupted view of the Waikato River. Each suite also features a spacious bath with a separate dressing room and a deep, luxurious tub.
Guests searching for a more exclusive experience may choose from two private cottages. The Alan Pye Cottage, named for the Irishman who founded the lodge, hosts up to four guests nestled amidst the riverside hills. Heritage stone, brick, and cedar timbers are paired with subtle 1920s and 1930s architectural themes to evoke a sense of that bygone era of grace. The Owner’s Cottage is practically hidden, elevated above the river with views downstream of the turquoise Huka Falls. The cottage’s central living area includes a kitchen, dining room, living room, and den. Four en suite guest rooms provide plenty of space for up to eight guests, and the entire cottage is speckled with thoughtful antiques and works from some of New Zealand’s most famed artists.
Head to the main lodge for a healthy dose of the hospitality that made the Huka Lodge so famous. Pre-dinner drinks are offered nightly, giving guests a chance to mingle before the spectacular five-course dinner crafted with local ingredients and the world’s finest wines begin gracing the tables. Families with children or guests looking for privacy can be accommodated in their suite or in one of several cozy dining nooks around the lodge.
Upstairs, the Hunting Lodge welcomes guests to drink and converse, while the Library downstairs is anchored by a warm log fireplace and oversized lounge chairs. Indulge in massages and beauty treatments from the skilled spa and salon staff, or simply spend the day lazing next to the sparkling swimming pool centered on the lush grounds. Tennis and croquet are also on offer on the grounds, and the Huka Lodge staff is happy to arrange a number of activities on nearby Lake Tuapo or exciting water adventures on the river.
