Property Details
The American Colony Hotel is a story within itself. The seeds of the American Colony Hotel were sown in 1902, when Baron Ustinov (grandfather of actor Sir Peter Ustinov), finding the Turkish inns of the time unacceptable, needed suitable accommodations in Jerusalem to house his visitors from Europe and America. Before long, the American Colony emerged as a point of lodging for Western travelers and pilgrims whose expectations for high standards of luxury and service were not met by the establishments then existing in Jerusalem.
Much of the hotel is still very reminiscent of the original structure and the “vintage luxe” atmosphere that encompasses it. Antique decor, rustic chandeliers, and large windows accent the historic exterior, while modern furniture and soft bedding add the comfort of your stay. While each room has its own unique character, there are several different accommodation types available for your stay at the American Colony:
Superior Rooms
Located primarily in the newer sections of the hotel, each room has an electronic safe, hairdryer, interactive cable television with in-house video, and high-speed Internet access.
Pasha Classical
Every room features typical Ottoman architecture from the 1800s. Step back more than a hundred years and lose yourself in history.
Pasha Deluxe
These original rooms were built by the Turkish Pasha in the 1800s for his three wives. Find three rooms in the Courtyard for summer time and three rooms above for the winter. They are all completely refurbished, taking great care to respect the charm and the atmosphere of the original building.
Junior Suites & Suites
Larger rooms, some with wooden ceilings, are located in the newer parts of the hotel and in the Palm House.
Suite #6
Built as a bedroom by the pasha for his beloved fourth wife, overlooking the courtyard, this suite has been meticulously restored with a charming character and stunning fittings.
Loft Suite
Located in the new east house building, these rooms are designed with a modern touch. The newest technology is available including a working area provided with its own necessary set-up.
