No matter the season, Deplar Farm is ideal for travelers wanting to go off the grid. Escape to the wilds of Iceland while enjoying the comforts of a boutique hotel.

Property Details

Deplar Farm is surrounded by the remote Fljot Valley along the mountainous Troll Peninsula. In the chillier months, a thick, fluffy-looking blanket of snow covers the landscape. In the warmer months, a carpet of green grass gleams against the endless blue skies. Activities are possible here year-round, including the coveted heli-skiing experience from mid-March to the end of May.

The 13 rooms are housed in a converted sheep farm fitted with the coziest, high-end upgrades. You won’t need to count sheep in the snuggly king and queen beds; you’ll fall right asleep covered in Moroccan wool. Textured walls and slanted ceilings provide a cocoon of comfort, and a cozy contrast to the raw landscape just outside your floor-to-ceiling windows. Fall into an afternoon snooze on the indoor hammock. Warm your toes in front of the crackling fire after stepping out on your private deck to marvel at the glassy lake, mountains, and snaking rivers.

The Fljot Valley sees some of the highest snowfall on the globe, making this a winter wonderland. Cottony snowflakes descend from the sky to cover the raw and remote landscape. It’s truly one of the most unique you will ever visit. Hike or horseback ride through the wild grass. The thick manes of the horses gently rustle in the wind as they graze. Deplar Farm easily blends into its natural environment.

Outdoor activities abound. Zip down the hills or set out in a sea kayak. Even in the cooler months when the days are shorter, the adventures are plentiful. Go whale watching along the fjords, keeping an eye out for the grand tail of a humpback or shimmering black and white orca’s sheath. Take a bicycle ride along the groomed valley trails. Laze away at the spa or melt away your stress by soaking in the geothermal-heated swimming pool, conveniently placed next to the bar so that a glass of wine is never far away. A massage therapist is always on call to help you slip into relaxation mode. Being this far north near the Arctic Circle gives you heightened chances to see the Aurora Borealis.

Bite into locally sourced fish and produce from Iceland’s farmers. When you arrive, you will be greeted with welcome appetizers. Snack bars and house-made goodies provide energy throughout the day. Icelandic craft brews and wines from the cellar are paired with your meal.

Experience silence, stillness, and solitude at Deplar Farm.
