Although it is just half an hour from Paro’s international airport, Amankora Paro is a secluded retreat in which guests can truly commune with their natural surroundings. The décor combines rustic and contemporary elements to create a soothing ambiance. A lime-washed stone pavilion serves as the main area, enclosing the living and dining rooms and library and featuring the outdoor terrace.
The lodge comprises six buildings with four suites in each. Each suite features wood paneling and gently sloping roofs and are furnished with a king size bed. A traditional bukhari, or wood-burning stove, can be found in each room, as well as an en suite bathroom with an oversized bath tub.
Dining at Amankora highlights Bhutanese ingredients prepared in traditional, Western, or Indian styles. Anticipate everything from red rice to yak carpaccio, as your dining becomes a culturally harmonious experience. Dine communally or privately, indoors or out. Behind the main buildings is the spa, which features five treatment rooms in which to luxuriate in traditional massage therapies.
