The history of Islington Hotel is long and begins in 1847 when the guesthouse was originally built in Regency style architecture. With a nod to its humble beginning, the restored guesthouse is juxtaposed with a modern glass conservancy and new accommodation wing, creating a luxury urban hotel.

Islington Hotel is a luxury boutique hotel with 11 individually decorated rooms, just outside Hobart’s city center. Each room is furnished with fine antiques, imported linens, and king size Islington Angel beds manufactured for the hotel by AH Beard, the oldest bed manufacturer in Australia. Five of the rooms are located in the original 1847 guesthouse and reflect the heritage of the building, celebrating the early Tasmanians who provided inspiration for the hotel.

The modern guest wing addition contains six garden rooms, each with French doors that open onto flagstone terraces leading to the gardens and ponds. Every room at Islington is complete with modern amenities including en suite marble bathrooms with under floor heating, a complimentary mini-bar, and an iPad to use while at the hotel.

Adding to the character and charm of the hotel, the antiques and art are part of the owner’s private collection, including original Picasso sketches. An extensive wine cellar holds vintage wines from near and far, as well as Tasmanian whiskey. In the kitchen, the chef uses seasonal, local, organic produce and herbs grown in the French herb garden for an a la carte menu served in the hotel’s intimate restaurant. From the large English garden enjoy stunning views of Mount Wellington.
