The Trek  

After arriving in Cusco, guests are whisked away to the Sacred Valley, where their Rugged Luxury Inca Trail tour begins. Guests begin to acclimatize for two days as they explore the cultural center of the former Inca Empire. A visit to the Maras Salt Terraces, a private weaving demonstration in the village of Chinchero, and the Inca ruins of Ollantaytambo provide context for the history and traditions that shaped the region before the trail begins. 

The trek then follows the classic Inca Trail from the trailhead at Kilometer 82, climbing through cloud forest and high alpine passes over four days. Each day's progress brings a changing landscape, quieter trails, and a growing appreciation for the ingenuity required to construct these pathways more than five hundred years ago. 

One of the greatest privileges of the 4 day Inca Trail hike is also the access to archaeological sites that can only be reached on foot. Hidden among mountain ridges and cloud forests, these remarkably preserved ruins offer a glimpse into daily life within the Inca Empire while providing valuable context for the grandeur of Machu Picchu itself. 

Finally, one of the trail's defining moments comes at Dead Woman's Pass, the highest point along the route at 13,829 feet. Though the climb is demanding, the panoramic views across the surrounding peaks make the ascent one of the most rewarding sections of the journey. What makes it even more special, however, is the champagne toast, served at the top. 

The trail then descends into the Pacaymayu valley and continues through high ridgelines toward Phuyupatamarca and the final descent to the Sun Gate, where Machu Picchu reveals itself below.
