A family home until 1989, Mount Juliet Estate feels like a fine country house with plenty of Irish hospitality in County Kilkenny. This home has welcomed guests since the 18th century, when Somerset Butler and his new bride Juliet moved into this home, named in her honor.

Property Details

There are several room options in various buildings located at Mount Juliet Estate. The 32-room Georgian-era manor house has lavish bedrooms named after people who have visited in the past. Big houses of this time period were built with hospitality in mind, since guests traveled by slow carriage and their stays with family and friends could last days or weeks. Feel like a welcomed guest in rooms that take you back in time and offer beautiful views of the River Nore and the green pastures beyond.

Mount Juliet Estate was once a working farm and the Hunter’s Yard housed horses, hay lofts, and lodgings for coachmen. Today the Hunter’s Yard is a short and scenic walk from the manor house, with 93 bright rooms and adjacent to the Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course. Set in a beautiful parkland, the Rose Garden Lodges are spacious with two en-suite bedrooms and a kitchen for guests that want more of a home environment.

Dine on international meals in the Michelin-starred Lady Helen Restaurant. Local ingredients, many from the property’s herb garden and farm, are used in the meal selections. Elegant floral wall coverings, a warm fireplace, and rich chairs make this a stylish experience. Soups, salads, and delicious Irish main courses are on menu at the Restaurant at Hunter’s Yard Hotel. Golf lovers will enjoy the view of the greens from here. Sip on a cocktail at Major’s Bar, an equestrian-themed space where you can chat with fellow guests. Afternoon tea or a pint of beer are a daily treat.

Hit the green at the golf course set in rolling pastures and woodland. Some of the 18 holes are more challenging than others, with one located near a lake and stream. Ride horses through the verdant grounds with an experienced guide. Holistic head and feet massages, hot stone therapy, and body wraps all soothe guests in the Spa Treatment rooms. Try a yoga class and add to the feeling of tranquility at this charming property nestled in the hills of Ireland.
