We at Ker & Downey are so excited about this new offering and think travelers should take advantage of this unique train to explore Cork, Waterford, Belfast Galway and Killarney. Spring is also the perfect time to play on Ireland’s world renowned golf courses and a trip to the putting green can be added to your travels. The Belmond Grand Hibernian is the first luxury train to travel across this island nation and it joins the world’s iconic rail collections, among legends like the Eastern & Oriental Express.
Three journeys are offered on the Belmond Grand Hibernian taking up to 40 guests through the magical countryside. Steam past the dramatic windswept coastline with stops in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland’s fascinating cities.
There are 16 twin and four double cabins, each with an en-suite. Waterford crystal light fixtures shimmer as you cozy up in a wool throw while looking out at the misty Irish countryside from the large windows. To add to the Irish charm, each cabin is named after a local county and are decorated with that county’s traditional tartan. Contemporary Irish art livens up the neutral space.
The Observation car has the warmth and hospitality of a Dublin saloon and is the place to mingle with fellow travelers, listen to live music and animated storytellers, try a little traditional céilí dancing, and sip on Irish whiskey or a pint of local stout as the green, hilly pastures roll by. Two dining carriages decorated in tweeds and Celtic motifs serve artisan cheese, smoked fish, champagne, oysters, and fresh, seasonal vegetables.
The three train journeys include daily meals, drinks, and guided excursions of the country’s historical cities, to the award-winning Titanic Experience which recreates the history of the ill-fated ocean liner. Watch the beautiful countryside go by as you head towards the historic Viking port of Waterford where you will enjoy an afternoon tea, visit the gardens and appreciate the history of Curraghmore House. The Gothic Kylemore Abbey and Blarney and Ashford Castles take guests back into time into a fairytale world of kings and queens.
