Iceland fishing trips first begin the moment you land at Keflavík International Airport. As you exit the arrivals hall, your private driver waits to welcome you warmly. Sit back and relax as a comfortable transfer carries you into Reykjavík, Iceland's compact and vibrant capital. Settle into The Edition Hotel, a stylish and well-positioned base for your first night in Iceland.
After checking into Torfhús Retreat, your private base for the next three nights, the first full day heads to the Djúpá River for one of the highlights of Iceland fishing trips. This lovely small char river — a three-rod beat with the added possibility of trout — requires minimal walking and easy wading. You will also have the entire river section privately to yourself, creating a relaxed, pressure-free environment that works exceptionally well for younger anglers. The Reynisdrangar basalt sea stacks rise from the North Atlantic at Reynisfjara's black sand beach, their sharp silhouettes tied to a local legend of trolls turned to stone at dawn. Skógafoss then thunders into its canyon, inviting you close for an unfiltered view of one of Iceland's most powerful waterfalls.
Then a buggy tour sets out across Iceland's otherworldly terrain, gliding through volcanic landscapes that feel carved from another planet entirely.
Finally, on your last full day, venture into Þórsmörk, named after the Norse god Thor and one of Iceland's most remote and awe-inspiring valleys. Reaching Þórsmörk requires a mountain vehicle capable of fording shallow glacial rivers and navigating rugged trails — part of the adventure itself. Inside the valley, moss-covered lava, braided riverbeds, and sweeping glacier views create a landscape that feels both mystical and genuinely wild.
Highlights include the retreating Gígjökull glacier tongue and its newly formed lagoon, the hidden gorge of Nauthúsagil with its cascading waterfall, and short scenic hikes through birch forest beneath glacier-capped peaks. Together, these two days along the south shore deliver some of the most visually dramatic moments of the entire journey.
The return journey to Reykjavík includes one final adventure. Raufarhólshellir, one of Iceland's most extensive lava tunnels, opens a remarkable window into the island's volcanic origins. A tour descends into the tunnel carved by flowing lava during the Leitahraun eruption over 5,000 years ago.
From there, your private driver completes the transfer to Keflavík International Airport for your departing international flight.
