Itinerary Description:
Your Congo Gorilla Safari takes you to three comfortable and individual camps within Odzala-Kokoua National Park: Ngaga, Lango, and Mboko. Each camp's location will reveal diverse landscapes that sustain a variety of wildlife and offer a unique glimpse into this seldom-traveled region of Africa.
The adventure really begins after one night of rest in Brazzaville. Fly into Odzala-Kokoua National Park and keep a sharp eye out for local game while on your way to Ngaga Camp, nestled within a glade of marantaceae vegetation. From here you will accompany your guide on treks to see the western lowland gorillas, looking for barely-visible tracks and signs of movement. While less habituated and of a different species than the legendary silverbacks found elsewhere in Africa, the interesting behavior of these gorillas will surely keep you intrigued. At camp, observe your surrounds from a raised wraparound walkway and an inviting common deck. You can also opt to visit the local villages for a perspective on everyday life in this remote part of the Congo Basin.
Continue to Lango Camp next, an elevated camp that overlooks the Lango Bai. Treks into the wilderness can happen on foot or via steel boat and kayak, depending on the water levels. On dry forest walks, you may observe chimpanzees in the trees and forest-adapted elephants munching on mineral-rich foliage. A waist-deep wade through the clear rivers and streams surrounding camp is another thrilling experience; the swamps are also navigable by a network of wooden platforms for those that prefer to stay dry.
On the seventh day of your Congo Gorilla Safari you will take a guided kayaking trip down the Lekoli River to reach your last destination, Mboko Camp. Relax along the banks of the river and fill your days with kayaking, boating, and safari walks into the bai with your expert guide. Craft your own custom experiences in the forests and on the water on your last days in the Congo Basin.
