More Details

This Uyuni Salt Flats tour first begins in La Paz, one of the highest capitals in the world. Upon arrival, your guide welcomes you and accompanies you to Casa Grande Hotel. Spend the afternoon resting to prevent altitude sickness in the highest city in South America. Later, a special welcome dinner brings the first evening to a warm close.

The second morning opens with a private guided tour of La Paz's historic heart. Then the Mercado de las Brujas reveals Andean healers, medicinal plants, and offerings dedicated to Pachamama.

Finally, conclude your time in La Paz with a day trip to Valle de la Luna. Millennia of erosion have carved clay pinnacles and ridges from the earth, creating a landscape that feels like another planet entirely.

Your Uyuni Salt Flats tour finally kicks off with a morning flight across the vast Altiplano to Uyuni. Your guide meets you on arrival and leads the first exploration of this remarkable landscape.

First, the village of Colchani introduces the salt-harvesting methods local families have practiced for generations. From there, begin one of the best Salar de Uyuni tours with your private guide. The Eyes of the Salar natural pools and the intricate geometric patterns of the Salt Labyrinth unfold around you. A private lunch in the middle of the salt flat follows.

The afternoon then carries you to Casa Gastón as the light begins to fade.

The following day explores the Salar's two remarkable islands on a full day tour. Isla Incahuasi, covered with cacti, opens with panoramic views in every direction. From there, the smaller Isla Pescado delivers an even deeper sense of isolation.

That afternoon, the village of Jirira offers an intimate encounter with families who have lived alongside the Salar for generations. At night, consider a privately guided astronomy experience under one of the darkest night skies on earth.

Your Uyuni Salt Flats tour will eventually enter one of the most remote territories in South America. The Eduardo Avaroa Andean Fauna National Reserve stretches across high-altitude plains beneath an enormous sky.

Then, Laguna Colorada arrives with a force no photograph can prepare you for. Indeed, its deep red waters and thousands of Andean flamingos create a scene unlike anywhere else on earth. Nearby, the Árbol de Piedra rises from the desert floor.

The day concludes at Laguna Hedionda, where your hotel sits at the water's edge. Here, flamingos gather in the hundreds in the high altitude lagoon as evening falls.

Finally, conclude your Salar de Uyuni tours with a visit to the geothermal field of Sol de Mañana. From there, the Dalí Desert unfolds across a vast, wind-sculpted plain.

The Polques hot springs offer a natural pause in the journey toward Chile. Thermal waters surround you as the open Altiplano stretches in every direction. Then, Laguna Verde, a brilliant emerald lake at the foot of Licancabur Volcano, marks the final Bolivian stop.

After crossing the border into Chile at Hito Cajón, your driver will transfer you to San Pedro de Atacama. Here you will check into Tierra Atacama for the final chapter of this Atacama Chile tour.

Highlights of your Atacama Chile tour include visiting El Tatio Geysers at sunrise. In addition, the Rainbow Valley, Moon Valley, and Piedras Rojas deliver extraordinary color and geology. The Salar de Atacama also offers open skies, imposing peaks, and flamingos across Chaxa Lagoon.

Additionally, floating in Cejar Lagoon, exploring pre-Columbian petroglyphs at Hierbas Buenas, and navigating the dry riverbeds of Quebrada del Diablo each reveal a different dimension of this remarkable desert.

Should time allow on departure morning, wander through San Pedro's streets and craft market for a quiet farewell.
