More Details
Your luxury Kenya and Tanzania safari tour first begins in Nairobi. Kenya’s lively capital is the only major city with a national park located within its boundaries. Therefore, it is not unusual to spot giraffes, zebras, and other wildlife near the city.
Upon arrival, meet a Ker & Downey representative and receive assistance with all airport formalities. Then join your private driver for the transfer to The Emakoko in Nairobi National Park. Surrounded by wilderness, the intimate lodge offers a peaceful introduction to Kenya and the adventures ahead.
After breakfast, transfer to Wilson Airport for your flight to the Chyulu Hills. Upon arrival, meet your guide and continue to ol Donyo Lodge. This elegant lodge sits within a private wilderness area between Amboseli and Tsavo national parks.
The Chyulu Hills form a natural border between the traditional lands of the Maasai and Kamba people. Rolling grasslands, volcanic hills, and open plains create a beautiful setting for wildlife exploration. Large herds of elephants and buffalo often move through this region. Lions, giraffes, and several antelope species also inhabit the surrounding wilderness.
Spend your Tanzania and Kenya safari exploring the area on guided day game drives, bush walks, or horseback safaris. Walking offers a closer look at animal tracks, plants, insects, and smaller details often missed from a vehicle. Meanwhile, riding safaris provide a quiet way to travel across the open plains.
The Chyulu Hills also have a deep connection to Maasai culture. Local communities have lived alongside wildlife here for generations. As a result, cultural encounters offer valuable insight into their traditions and relationship with the land.
Then continue your Tanzania and Kenya safari in Lake Manyara in northern Tanzania. Upon arrival, transfer to Chem Chem Safari Lodge. Its private concession stretches between Lake Manyara and Tarangire National Park.
The Chem Chem Concession forms part of an important wildlife corridor. Elephants, giraffes, zebras, and antelope therefore move freely through the landscape. The area’s private setting also creates opportunities for flexible and uncrowded safari experiences.
Spend the following day choosing from the lodge’s extensive range of activities. Set out on a private game drive or explore the concession on foot with an experienced guide. Horseback safaris provide another way to experience the open plains. In addition, Ker & Downey World Travel can arrange day trips into Lake Manyara or Tarangire National Park.
Those seeking a slower pace may enjoy a private picnic, spa treatment, or time beside the pool. Later, gather for sunset drinks overlooking the surrounding wilderness. Perhaps even allow Ker & Downey World Travel to arrange a private bush dinner beneath the Tanzanian sky.
After two nights at Chem Chem Safari Lodge, transfer onward to Little Chem Chem. This intimate camp offers a classic safari atmosphere within the same private concession. Its location provides excellent access to the landscapes and wildlife of the Burunge Wildlife Management Area.
Days begin with early morning game drives across the open savanna. Pause for coffee or tea while the sun rises over Lake Manyara, then continue in search of elephants, lions, giraffes, and plains game.
Guided walking safaris reveal another side of the ecosystem. Learn how to identify tracks and understand animal behavior. Your guide will also explain the region’s plants, birds, and smaller wildlife. Evenings bring sundowners, elegant meals, and the sounds of the African bush.
Finally, transfer to the airstrip for your flight into the greater Serengeti ecosystem. Upon arrival, meet your guide and continue to Mwiba Lodge. The lodge overlooks a rocky gorge within the private Mwiba Wildlife Reserve and serves as a perfect finale to your Tanzania and Kenya safari.
Mwiba protects a beautiful wilderness of freshwater springs, acacia woodland, open plains, and granite outcrops. Its position in the southern Serengeti ecosystem supports diverse wildlife throughout the year. Furthermore, its private setting allows greater freedom than many national park safari areas.
Spend the next two days exploring the reserve on private game drives searching for lions, leopards, elephants, giraffes, and large herds of plains game. Depending on the season, this area is perfect for experiencing the Great Migration, which traverses different parts of the region on its never-ending search for food and water. Millions of wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle form a communal group for protection as they wander between Kenya and Tanzania and back each year.
In addition, guided walks provide an opportunity to experience the landscape at ground level. Follow animal tracks, examine native plants, and learn how each species contributes to the wider ecosystem. The lodge can also arrange scenic sundowners and private bush meals in remote settings.
Mwiba also offers meaningful cultural experiences with nearby communities. Visit local villages and learn about the traditions of the region’s Indigenous people. You may also explore ancient rock shelters decorated with historic paintings. These experiences add cultural depth to your Tanzania and Kenya safari.
Between excursions, return to the lodge for quiet time overlooking the reserve. Relax beside the pool, enjoy a spa treatment, or watch wildlife from the lodge’s elevated position. Each evening concludes with refined dining and views across the African wilderness.
On your last day, you will enjoy a day room at Legendary Lodge in Arusha ahead of your onward flight. While here, enjoy the lodge’s peaceful grounds and views toward Mount Meru. You may also enjoy lunch, a spa treatment, or time relaxing on your private veranda.
