More Details
Zagreb
Your Beautiful Balkans tour first begins in Zagreb, Croatia’s capital. Upon arrival, transfer privately to your hotel then begin exploring with your private local guide.
Walk through the Upper Town, visit St. Mark’s Church, and stop at Dolac Market to see local produce and daily life. Perhaps even stop into a museum (since Zagreb boasts the most museums of any other city int he world)! Meanwhile, your guide will explain the city’s Roman and Austro-Hungarian roots.
Later, savor some local coffee at a relaxed pace during your free time. Lean in to the city's café culture and enjoy views of the Medvednica mountain range and Sava River. As a result, the city offers a calm and welcoming beginning to your Balkans travel itinerary.
Zadar
Next, your Balkans tour continues south toward Zadar. Along the way, stop at Plitvice Lakes National Park where wooden pathways connect turquoise lakes and waterfalls. Walk with your private guide and learn about the park’s ecosystem. Also keep an eye out for deer, bears, wolves, boars, and rare birds as you explore the park.
Afterward, continue to Zadar to listen to the Sea Organ as waves create soft music along the waterfront.
Then explore the Roman Forum and St. Donatus Church with a local guide. In addition, set out on a private boat outing to nearby islands. Swimming stops and hidden beaches and coves add a coastal highlight to your Croatia experience. Enjoy the amazing views from the boat, swim in the waters, or cruise through crystal clear blue waters of Kornati National Park.
Split
Your Beautiful Balkans tour then continues onward to Split, a coastal city that blends ancient history with modern life. Begin with a guided tour of Diocletian’s Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Walk through narrow stone streets and lively squares and explore local markets and waterfront promenades.
For a hands-on experience, join a private Dalmatian cooking class in an authentic old stone house in ancient Trogir. While here, learn how to prepare regional dishes using fresh ingredients from a local host.
These moments enhance your overall Balkans travel itinerary with both flavor and scenery.
Dubrovnik
Finally, set out on a private yacht to Korčula Island for a special wine tasting experience. Explore the famous town of Korčula with your local guide before cruising through the Adriatic Sea onward to Dubrovnik, the “Pearl of the Adriatic.”
While here, walk along the medieval city walls for sweeping sea views and visit the Rector’s Palace and Franciscan Monastery. Then ride the cable car to Mount Srđ for a wide view over the Old Town and coastline. If you watched Game of Thrones, you will no doubt recognize the view.
Indeed, Dubrovnik offers a strong finish to the Croatia portion of your Balkan itinerary.
Budva
After Croatia, continue your tour through the Balkan Peninsula crosses into Montenegro via a scenic drive along Boka Bay. Along the way, stop in Perast, a sleepy coastal town, and Our Lady of the Rocks. Continue to Kotor, Montenegro for a private tour of its medieval Old Town, a UNESCO-listed site.
You will quickly discover that though small in size, Montenegro offers dramatic landscapes.
While in Montenegro, stay in Budva, one of the oldest towns on the Adriatic. From your exclusive resort, witness mountains rise sharply behind the coastline. This stop adds contrast and depth to your Balkans travel itinerary.
Finally, your Croatia, Montenegro & Albania tour packages concludes in Albania.
Tirana
En route to Tirana, stop at Rozafa Castle near Shkodër and the Ethnographic Museum of Krujë. We also recommend shopping for handmade rugs and alabaster handicrafts in the Old Bazaar of Krujë.
You eventually arrive for your overnight in Tirana, the country’s lively capital. Surrounded by mountains and open plains, Tirana blends past and present. While here, visit Skanderbeg Square and the Et’hem Bey Mosque. Then explore Bunk’Art, a former Cold War bunker turned museum.
Private Albania guided tours ensure meaningful access and local insight throughout your stay.
Saranda
Continue south to Sarandë located along the Albanian Riviera where clear waters meet quiet beaches. Unlike busier Mediterranean destinations, this coastline remains less crowded.
However, before arriving, you will enjoy a stop to see the ancient ruins of Apollonia along the way. The fascinating landscape of the archaeological park comprises a successful combination of nature and monument.
Then, enjoy a couple of days of relaxation by the sea in Sarandë. Also enjoy a day trip to nearby archaeological sites such as Butrint, a UNESCO-listed ancient city.
In the evening, dine at Lëkurësi Castle overlooking the coast--a true highlight of your Balkans tour experience. As the sun sets, the Ionian Sea glows in shades of blue and gold.
Berat
Finally, conclude your Balkans travel itinerary in Berat, known as the “City of a Thousand Windows.” White Ottoman houses climb the hillside below a historic fortress in a city of rich history.
While here, enjoy lunch in a traditional restaurant and embark on a privately guided tour of the city. Our Albania guided tours allow you to visit the Fortress of Berat, the world’s only fortress in the territory in which people still live. Also visit the Ethnographic Museum and see Byzantine churches and mosques standing side by side.
This closing chapter reflects the cultural richness that defines strong Albania tour packages.
