When is the Best Time to Travel to Japan?

  • The most beautiful weather occurs throughout most of Japan in the spring (April/May) and autumn (October/November), making this a very popular time to travel. We recommend booking travel for these periods at least a year in advance.
  • While the summer can be hot and humid, it’s also festival season across the country.
  • Hokkaido is best in winter (December to February) for skiing and ice festivals or in summer (June to August) for outdoor fun in cooler weather.
  • Winter also brings with it snow-capped peaks, lower humidity for outdoor exploration, and stunning holiday lighting installations.
  • Okinawa’s summer (May to October) is perfect for water sports, beach time, diving and snorkeling, and the Okinawa Zento Eisa Matsuri.
