Central Asia
Seasonality & Pricing
Late March to May & Mid-August to October: High demand season of late March to May in Central Asia offers mild weather, blooming landscapes, and accessibility to both lowlands and mountains for travelers to experience all the region has to offer. Mid-August to October spans late summer to early autumn, offering a mix of warm-to-cool weather, harvest seasons, and optimal conditions for exploring both mountains and cultural sites before winter sets in.
June to August & December to February: The low demand season covers the peak of summer which is hot and dry in the lowlands and deserts, but offers warm and accessible mountain conditions for high-altitude exploration with smaller crowds. December through February is winter in the region, bringing cold, dry conditions to most areas, with significant snow in the mountains and limited access.
Early to Mid-March & November: The shoulder seasons are a mix of transitional conditions that are either lingering cold, early signs of warmth, or the start of winter. Such conditions can appeal to travelers seeking a quieter season with emerging accessibility.

Considerations
Important considerations when traveling to Central Asia:
- In March all of Central Asia celebrates New Year (Nowruz) with public performances of traditional singing, dancing, handicrafts and the sharing of the holiday sweet (sumalak). Originating from the ancient religious rites of Zoroastrianism, Uzbekistan has what is probably the biggest celebration with government sponsored events, torchlight processions, children’s performances, sport and equestrian events, and music festivals.
- Turkmenistan hosts an Equestrian Festival in April.
- May is the month of festivals filled with traditional and popular music, flower festivals, and the Silk and Spice Festival. In the villages and farmlands, visitors can take part in the nomadic traditions of yurt building.
- August through September is the best time for adventure. Hiking, trekking, and bicycle tours are popular as the intense summer heat finally comes to an end, while visitors get a taste of the great Silk Road caravans on camel safaris through the desert.
- For lovers of traditional music, the world-famous Shark-Taronalari Festival is held every August in Registan Square of Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
