More Details

Your Hokkaido Tour Package first begins on arrival at New Chitose Airport. Here your private driver will meet you and transfer you to The Gate Hotel Sapporo by HULIC. Spend the remainder of the day at leisure to rest and acclimate.

The following morning, meet your private Japan tour guide for a full day exploring Sapporo. Unlike older Japanese cities, Sapporo follows a clear grid system, making it easy to navigate and refreshingly open. Begin at Odori Park, the city’s green spine, before exploring Nijo Market. Indeed, you will witness seafood vendors display the freshest catches from northern waters here.

Then continue to Hokkaido Jingu Shrine, set among forested grounds and dedicated to the region’s pioneering spirits. Also visit Shiroi Koibito Park and the Ishiya Chocolate Factory to learn how to make one of Japan’s most famous confections. Finally, end the day at the Sapporo Beer Museum and Garden, where Hokkaido’s brewing heritage reflects its agricultural roots.

On Day 3, transfer late morning to Asahikawa by train or private vehicle, based on your transportation preference. You will eventually check in at Hotel Taisetsu, surrounded by rugged mountains and steaming geothermal vents.

After a relaxing evening, venture into the heart of Daisetsuzan National Park, often called the “Roof of Hokkaido.” En route, ride the Kurodake Ropeway, where cable cars lift you above dense forests and volcanic ridges.

You will also dedicate the entire following day to this dramatic landscape. For example, visit Asahidake Onsen, where mineral-rich waters soothe after exploration. In addition, ride the Asahidake Ropeway to access high alpine terrain shaped by volcanic forces. Depending on conditions, enjoy guided hiking through windswept plateaus and wildflower fields.

Each evening, return to your hotel in the evening to relax in traditional hot springs and enjoy mountain cuisine.

Your Hokkaido tour package then invites you to travel east by private vehicle toward the Sea of Okhotsk. Along the way, stop at the Hokkaido Okhotsk Drift Ice Science Center, which explains the seasonal sea ice that defines this region’s ecosystem. Continue next to Lake Saroma, Japan’s third-largest lake, where sea and freshwater meet.

Finally, arrive at Lake Abashiri on the Yobito Peninsula and check in at Hokuten no Oka Lake Abashiri Tsuruga Resort. The setting feels remote and expansive, with open skies, wetlands, and quiet shores defining the landscape.

The next day, depart with your guide for the Shiretoko Peninsula, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Stop at the Abashiri Prison Museum, offering insight into Hokkaido’s frontier history. Then visit the Hokkaido Museum of Northern Peoples, which explores the cultures of northern indigenous groups, including the Ainu.

You will eventually arrive at Shiretoko Kitakobushi Resort & Spa for a two-night stay. The next day, explore the region’s dramatic scenery. This of course includes a drive along the Shiretoko Pass, where mountains plunge toward the sea. The weather also often creates misty, cinematic views.

You will also join a Shiretoko Cruise along the rugged coastline, where waterfalls cascade directly into the ocean. You may even witness a few wildlife encounters.

Spend your final afternoon at leisure, enjoying the spa or coastal walks.

Your Hokkaido Japan tour package then travels south to Akanko Onsen. Stop at Lake Mashu inside Akan Mashu National Park along the way. Known for its clarity and frequent fog, the lake offers multiple observation decks with shifting views that change by the minute.

Finally, arrive at Tsuruga Akan Yuku no Sato and settle in for for the evening. The following day, explore the area with your private Japan tour guide. For example, visit the Lake Akan Eco Museum Center to understand the region’s volcanic origins. And board the Lake Akan Marimo Cruise, where you will learn about the rare spherical algae known as marimo, sacred to the Ainu people.

Continue to Sogakudai and Sokodai Observatories, where panoramic views reveal crater lakes, forests, and volcanic ridgelines.

You will eventually depart Akanko Onsen with your English speaking guide for Kushiro. En route, visit the Akan International Crane Center, dedicated to the protection of Japan’s iconic red-crowned cranes. Continue through the Kushiro Wetlands, Japan’s largest marshland and a vital habitat for migratory birds.

Arrive in Kushiro for your the final restful night of your Hokkaido tour package.

Finally, enjoy a private transfer to Kushiro Airport for your flight to Sapporo or Tokyo.
