Kweene Trails
Luxury Botswana Mobile Safari Camp
Kweene Trails offers unmatched exclusivity in the Okavango Delta. From the mobile safari camp, explore 74,000 acres of Abu Private Reserve. There are many ways to define luxury in the bush. For some, they desire a luxury retreat with glass walls, air conditioning, a freestanding bathtub with a view, and plush bedding to return to after a day spent on safari. For others, it is the exclusivity of the property and luxuries that afford – like being the only person or group at an exciting animal sighting.
Absolute Exclusivity
The luxury of Kweene Trails is in the latter. You won’t find copper tubs or extra frills here. What you will find is an experience in the bush that is unmatched. The camp is located on 74,000 acres of private access land in the Abu Private Reserve, which is located in the western part of the Okavango Delta. It is the only mobile safari camp in Botswana that has exclusive access to a private concession. Additionally, it’s booked on a per-group basis. That means that you and your guests, along with the guides, are the only people in the camp. You’ll have the entire 74,000 acres to yourself to explore.
Simplistic Luxury
Kweene Trails operates between two camps, each set in areas with completely different habitats. The first site, in the south, is very arid with an occasional swamp. On the other end of the reserve in the north, the site is often wet. Simplistic luxury leads the design of the tents, putting the focus on the experience. 3×3 dome tents with large windows and an open roof cone provide shelter from the physical elements but give the feel of sleeping under a mosquito net. The bedrolls are comfortable with Egyptian cotton linens and down pillows.
You really are one with nature. Sleeping on a bedroll under a canvas tent allows you to hear the sounds of the bush at night in a way an air-conditioned suite cannot. You’ll know if an animal walks through the camp at night.
Activities at Kweene Trails
Kweene Trails lies on a stretch of the Kweene River system that is accessible only by helicopter. Because of that, your safari experience starts before you even arrive at camp. Just imagine flying in via helicopter, spotting herds of elephants from the sky, then landing directly at the camp. On arrival, a gin and tonic await. Can you imagine a better start to your Botswana safari?
One of the most popular activities in the Okavango Delta is mokoroing. While this activity is dependent upon water levels, it’s excellent in this area. During the dry season, herbivores knock down the grasses, resulting in wide-open vistas ideal for a safari by mokoro.
Prior to Kweene Trails, this part of the reserve was entirely undeveloped. Because of that, the guides and staff sensitively developed a limited network of game drive roads to preserve the untouched wilderness. A large portion of the reserve isn’t even accessible via motorized vehicle. As a result, walking safaris in the area are excellent.
Dining
The food at Kweene Trails is superb, which is actually pretty incredible considering Chef Mwinga is cooking off of just a fire. However, the dishes are fresh, healthy, and delicious. Additionally, all spirits and wines are of premium quality. They’ve even partnered with a wine sommelier in Cape Town to select wines from South Africa’s Winelands to match the menu.
