On a hill overlooking a vital waterway, Roho ya Selous is perfectly positioned for exploration. The luxury tented camp will open in August 2017, and Ker & Downey is pleased to accept advance bookings to this new unique destination.

Property Details

Roho ya Selous sits close to the Rufiji River, a key waterway which links Lake Manze to Lake Nzerakera, right in the heart of the Selous Game Reserve. This pristine region is sparse on safari camps, but abundant in wildlife. The reserve’s denizens include leopard, wild dog, lion, and some 400 species of birds, and Roho ya Selous places you in their well-traveled path.

Larger than the country of Switzerland and encompassing 30,000 square miles, Selous Game Reserve is indeed a safari playground. As for camp, it will include eight comfortable stretch-canvas tents, one being designed specifically for families. Keeping in line with the sensibilities and luxuries of the Asilia family of tented camps, each abode will be appointed with comfortable and functional amenities. En suite bathrooms include flushing toilets and hot running water ever at the ready. An over-bed “Evening Breeze” cooling system comes standard, making the warmer seasons effortlessly bearable in the retreat of your private tent.

From its hillside location overlooking the water, guests have a variety of options for exploring the area. The waterways surrounding Roho ya Selous offer a chance to explore too, and your guides can escort you on boating and catch-and-release fishing excursions on Lake Nzerakera and the Rufiji River. Embark on game drives and walking safaris with the skilled guides who will reveal just a sliver of Africa’s largest protected reserve. With such a vast and unpopulated area to traverse, each day promises to be completely different from the next.

Roho ya Selous is slated to open in August 2017, giving safari-goers an outstanding tented camp option in the Selous Game Reserve. The camp will join a stellar family of Asilia safari destinations, including Kwihala Camp in Ruaha National Park, Tarangire’s Oliver’s Camp, and Serengeti favorites Dunia, Sayari, and Namiri Plains.
