The Guide

Iguazu Falls

Ker & Downey Product Manager Elizabeth Frels reveals the best of the Argentinian side of Iguazu Falls.

Stay Here

Awasi Iguazu | Awasi represents a new level of luxury to Iguazu Falls. The property’s indulgent villa accommodations — with their soaking bathtubs, private plunge pools, unlimited wine selection, and jungle setting — allow travelers to truly exhale and unwind. What’s more, the wait and service staff ensure every interaction and meal is more than memorable. They remember your preferred beverage and always stock your room with every amenity. The food, in general, is standout, which is to be expected given the Awasi’s Relais & Chateaux status.

Grand Melia Iguazu | The Grand Melia boasts the best location on the Argentine side of Iguazu Falls. (Its neighbor, Hotel Das Cataratas, across the border shares a similar privilege in Brazil.) Its large swimming pool with views of the waterfalls, complimentary sauna, and live evening music make it ideal for families. Yet it is the unlimited access to the Upper and Lower circuits on the Argentinian side of the falls that places this property a cut above the rest. Be sure to book the waterfall view rooms for the best experience. However, beware of the many monkeys that like to sneak on the balconies.

Pristine Iguazú Luxury Camp | Hidden within the Puerto Bemberg Nature Reserve along the banks of the Paraná River, Pristine Iguazú Luxury Camp offers a more adventurous and eco-friendly stay near the falls. The camp's four luxurious tented suites each boast a private heated pool, hot tub, personalized mini bar, in-room soaking tub, outdoor shower, and air conditioning. What's more, the camp's menu of complimentary curated experiences revolve around the four elements: land, air, fire, and water.

Do This

Witness Iguazu Falls from All Sides | Allow a local private guide to navigate the ins and outs of border crossings, circuit highlights, and general logistics as you explore both sides of the falls on foot, water, and air. The Brazilian side of Iguazu Falls is all about the views, with its powerful up-close encounters with the water. Meanwhile, the Argentinian side is all about the immersion, walking over roaring rivers and past cliff edges which makes you feel one with the falls. Don’t miss an exhilarating boat ride down the Iguazu River to see the thunderous cascades up close (and to receive an inevitable shower from its spray). Finally, see it from above from the comfort of a private helicopter.

Venture Beyond the Falls | Get to know a different side to the region. Whether it’s a full-day visit to the nearby missions or a motorboat ride down the Alto Paraná river hike through the Atlantic Rainforest, it is worth obtaining a 360-view of this corner of the world. One “must” is a visit to the local Guaraní people. Indeed, it is a special way to learn about their beautiful customs and culture.

Spot the Wildlife | While the iconic Iguazu Falls steal the show, it is worth remembering that they reside within the rainforest. There is therefore an immense amount of wildlife found here. Don’t be surprised if  massive iguanas startle you as you walk or flocks of toucans fly overhead. Butterflies of every color envelop visitors, and cute coatis share the pathways with tourists near the falls.

Eat and Drink

The cuisine around Iguazu Falls is unique to this little corner of the world. It melds the traditions of the indigenous people and the influence of three different countries (Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay) to make something wholly singular.

Seek out the regional cuisine as much as possible. Awasi Iguazu perfectly executes elevated versions of the classic Argentinian fare. This includes fish empanadas, Sopa Paraguaya (Paraguayan soup), and dulce de leche cream topped with coconut ice cream. Local private guides can also share other classical regional fair like chipá guazu and chipá so’o, Pacú river fish, and pastafrola. Of course, there is also favorite local beverages, maté and tereré.
