Catherine Brown can trace the travel bug all the way back to Pilgrim ancestors that ventured out across the Atlantic in 1620. After graduating from the University of Vermont, Catherine spent a couple of years exploring the South Pacific, living in Australia, and traveling around New Zealand and Indonesia. She then moved to Hawaii, where she lived on the island of Lana’i and worked at the Four Seasons Lodge at Koele and the Manele Bay Hotel. It was there that she met a tour guide escorting a group of travelers through the South Pacific, and realized that she could turn her passion for traveling into a career. She has more than a decade of experience in the luxury travel market and has traveled extensively through Burma, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, China, India, Sri Lanka, Iceland, and the South Pacific.

Favorite place you’ve traveled: Too hard! Western Australia holds a special place in my heart as my first solo trip, and it spurred my love of travel and my career.

Favorite city and why: Cluj, Romania. I spent a couple of weeks there, working with local families and exploring the city. It was fascinating. Great food, warm people, rich history and incredible scenery. I would go back in a heartbeat.

What is the best thing about traveling: Traveling is the chance to experience another way of life. To me there’s nothing more interesting than to see how another culture lives, eats, works, believes, parents, and has fun.

Travel accessory you can’t live without? My camera

Favorite plane ride activity: Sleeping! I’ve got a lot to catch up on after chasing around my two little kiddos.

Top of my travel bucket list: Papua New Guinea

Two weeks + and unlimited budget, where are you going? I’m going on the Golden Eagle across Russia.

Beach or mountains: Beach!

How do you take your coffee? Tea, please!

If they could bottle your personality what would the label read? Half full

My theme song is: “Coming in from the Cold” by Bob Marley

Any pets? I have two dogs. My sweet 13 year old golden retriever, Sam, and then there’s this goofy hound named Otis…

Something I said I’d never do but did anyway was: Come back to live in New England. I always thought I’d be living somewhere exotic, but after doing that for bit, I’m really happy to be settled down near family and old friends.

Two things I can’t live without are: My immediate and extended family

It’s Sunday morning at 10 a.m. If I’m not sleeping, I’m: At the rocky beach near our house, walking our dogs.

My favorite physical activity is: Jogging

The first thing I do when I wake up is: Hug my kids, because they’re the ones who have woken me up.

One thing people are surprised to find out about me is: I lived on Lana’i for awhile.

The last concert I went to was: Sting

My favorite TV show to watch (or toy to play with) as a kid was: Magnum PI

If I could instantly learn a new language, I would learn: Spanish
