Ruckomechi Camp

Shaded by a grove of acacia and mahogany trees on the banks of the Zambezi River lies Ruckomechi Camp. With a prime location near the Mana Pools National Park and views of the mountainous Great Rift Valley across the river, Ruckomechi is the ideal place for a breathtaking safari experience.

Property Details

Guests will stay in a safari-chic setting in one of 10 spacious private tents. Each tent features en-suite facilities, both an indoor and outdoor shower, plus a unique outdoor “bath with a view” on your secluded deck. Hot water and electricity are made possible through the use of solar power throughout the entire camp. The indoor bathroom contains a copper wash basin and is divided from the sleeping area by an earthy cobblestone wall. The tent’s concrete floors are accented by inlaid river rocks and colorful handcrafted rugs, colors and textures echoed in the scenery visible from the foot of your comfortable bed.

Raised walkways connect the tents to the main buildings, taking care not to disrupt the natural vegetation or topography of the area. Main camp is where guests will find the central dining area, bar, library and lounge. The sun deck and swimming pool are popular spots between game drives, and by night relax under a canopy of stars on the plush cushions of the stargazing deck.  Elephants in the area are often seen near the main camp sneaking their favorite snack, leaves of the albida trees growing on the grounds.

Thanks to the constant flow of the Zambezi River, the area offers splendid game viewing. Large numbers of elephant, buffalo, hippo and eland can be found year-round, but especially in the winter when they gather along the river. Predators such as lion, leopard and wild dog join the large mammals near the river and several species of woodland and riverine birds are a constant presence. Venture forth with an expert guide on game drives or opt for intimate game viewing on foot. Guests also have the chance to embark on a motorized pontoon safari along the Zambezi to catch a glimpse of the wildlife in their watery surrounds.
