Lion Sands

Lion Sands includes two luxury lodges - the elegant and exclusive Ivory Lodge and the family friendly luxury camp, River Lodge, both of which have been built on the banks of the Sabie River. The More family holds a long and rich history in the area - the More brothers are fourth generation owners of this magnificent property. Guests are immediately welcomed to the family and invited to relax and enjoy this retreat on the river.

Property Details

Lion Sands Ivory Lodge has also been built on the banks of the Sabie River with magnificent views, extending onto the open sand banks of the Kruger National Park. The lodge faces due south and is approximately 300 feet upstream of Lion Sands River Lodge. The entrance area is separate from the main lodge in order to ensure that guests arriving and departing have no impact on other overnight guests.

The main and entrance area comprise a private lounge, wooden viewing decks, board room, wine cellar, health spa, curio shop and both an indoor and open-air (boma) dining area. Ivory Lodge is about African Euro elegance, sophistication yet simplicity, boldness yet balance, ebony and ivory, perfect harmony, exclusivity, sensitivity and complete privacy. At Ivory Lodge, there are six ultra luxurious suites with en-suite bathroom, outdoor and inside shower, courtyard, lounge with fireplace, wooden viewing deck, patio and private plunge pool.

The bedroom and bathroom area are air-conditioned and overhead fans cool the bedrooms and lounges. All rooms have telephone and Internet access. The suites are generously proportioned and are positioned at least 50 feet apart, being linked to all areas by raised wooden walkways. They all have breathtaking views over the Sabie River, a setting where game viewing can be done from the luxury of one’s private suite – Africa’s finest bedroom!

River Lodge is a luxury-style camp that offers the same activities and nuances as the more intimate Ivory Lodge, but it is perfectly suited for families who wish to share the safari experience with children. The lodge has a full gym, pool, both indoor and outdoor dining experiences and spa treatments are available in the wellness center. Twice daily game drives and other bush activities are also included in the rate as well as all meals, beverages and house spirits.

In addition to these two beautiful lodges, Ivory Lodge also offers a fabulous private option for families and small groups, 1933. This is the private home of the owners when not in use and it is ideal for families with children. Your own private butler, private game vehicle and private chef are all included in the rate. 1933 is a beautiful, massive-sized home built for the ultimate private experience for families or small, intimate groups. The main lodge includes four suites which sleeps up to eight adults and the children’s dormitory holds eight lively children in comfortable and elegant surrounds. Every amenity has been thought of so your group and family will feel as if you have the entire safari experience to yourselves.

The philosophy of the safari experience at Lion Sands is to deliver a consistently professional, informative and holistic safari experience, ensuring that all spheres of the eco-system, from the small insects to the mighty African elephant, are covered in as much detail as the guest may require. The senior ecologist, ranger and tracker teams have been carefully selected to make certain that your safari experience will not only meet but exceed your highest expectations.
