What began as a home for a little orphaned elephant named Jabulani has become South Africa’s premier elephant experience reserve. Camp Jabulani is an exclusive luxury property that offers guests a myriad of experiences that are truly unforgettable.
Located on the Kapama Game Reserve, Camp Jabulani lodging consists of six spacious and luxurious suites that offer the ultimate in privacy and exclusivity. Flanked along a dry river bed, each suite offers exquisite furnishings, much of which record the history of the Roode family and the early years of little Jabulani’s life. All suites are connected to a large private deck with a delightful plunge pool at the ready to refresh and renew. The main lodge is reached via suspension walking bridge and is a spacious, open area full of antiques and luxurious furnishings. Here, guests enjoy meals prepared by Chef Rudolf Van Den Berg, who has made a culinary name for himself throughout South Africa. Dishes prepared with local fusions and international influences are artfully prepared using fresh and organic ingredients.
A new approach to game viewing, Camp Jabulani offers guests a “safari on demand” experience where guests can choose the timing of game drives. No early wake up calls unless you can’t miss those sunrise game experiences! Big Five game abounds in the Kapama and guests will not be dissappointed by the range of wildlife that can be seen.
Of course, the star of the show is Jabulani, and guests can also encounter the herd of 15 resident elephants who were brought to Kapama from Zimbabwe as a result of a massive rescue project. The lodge rate includes elephant back safari experiences, elephant interactions, and a tour of the elephant barn to see how the elephants are cared for. In addition, guests are treated to a behind-the-scenes tour of the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Project where you will be invited to meet the cheetahs face to face. Afterwards, visit the vast Center to see the animals that have been rescued and take a trip to the mind-boggling Vulture Cafe!
