Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge
The Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge is located just minutes from the main entrance to Volcanoes National Park and is the perfect location from which to enjoy gorilla trekking in the forests surrounding the Virunga Mountains. The lodge is owned by a community trust called SACOLA, which uses income from its operation to finance socio-economic development and conservation projects in the area.
Property Details
The lodge comprises five double cottages, two suites in the main building, and a family suite with an additional bedroom and bathroom. The buildings are stone with Rwandese terracotta roof tiles and have sheltered verandas and spacious en suite bathrooms. The guest rooms all feature large windows that provide amazing views of the park and the extensive gardens.
The main lodge features a comfortable sitting area, a library, and a community awareness center, where you can learn about the community projects of SACOLA. There are three large fireplaces, creating a warm and welcoming environment for you to relax in and share your day’s adventures with the other guests. Two outdoor patios provide stunning views of the Virunga Volcanoes and surrounding lowlands.
The lodge is about a ten-minute drive from the main office and registration center of the Volcanoes National Park, providing easy access to the gorilla trekking program. You can also visit the nearby Ruhengeri and its bustling market, the genocide memorials, the beautiful local lakes, SACOLA’s community projects, or the Dian Fossey research center. In addition, avid bird watchers may want to take the opportunity to explore the area and discover for themselves some of the 670 recorded Rwandan bird species while they are here.
