Sacred Valley
Urubamba, the Sacred Valley of the Incas, is an Andean valley near Cusco that includes many important Incan archaeological sites.
The Sacred Valley provides easy access to the world famous Machu Picchu Citadel, but it is also home to a number of remarkable ruins itself. Some sights not to be missed here include the Ollantaytambo fortress, which also includes traces of agricultural and other non-military uses; Pisac, which still features an active market that you won’t want to miss visiting; Pikillacta, a site originally dating to the Huari people; and many more. In addition, the surrounding natural scenery is breathtaking, providing incredible photographic opportunities.
