Lake Titicaca

Lake Titicaca is the largest lake in South America, spreading across the border between Peru and Bolivia. The lake features a number of islands of interest, including several artificial islands made of floating reeds that draw a lot of attention from tourists. Other islands on the Peruvian side include Amantaní and Taquile, both of which can be visited by boat from the beautiful lakeside city of Puno. The islands and much of the surrounding area are dotted by Incan ruins, with the island of Taquile also scattered with a number of pre-Incan sites as well.

The nearby cities of Puno and Juliaca offer a number of excellent sightseeing opportunities for visitors to the area. Puno, located right on the shore of the magnificent lake, is known as the “folkloric capital of Peru”, and here, you can experience many amazing examples of cultural expression, including art, dance, and music. Juliaca is famous for the pre-Incan Sillustani tombs, which are considered the most well-preserved examples of their type of architecture in the Altiplano.

Lake Titicaca is an extraordinarily beautiful and fascinating location in Peru. Let your Ker & Downey travel expert help you to incorporate a visit to the area into your unique, customized itinerary.
