Serra Cafema Camp
Located in one of the most remote regions in all of Southern Africa, Serra Cafema Camp is an unexpected oasis of luxury and offers the traveler the gift of space, peace and solitude. Perched on the Kunene River, the camp is inspired by the pioneering spirit of the region.
Property Details
The camp’s Portuguese name is rooted in the mountains that overlook the area to the north. The region is Himba and guests will be able to interact with these nomadic people, the last of their kind on earth.
Nearby the Kunene River is a permanent source of water which creates a lush oasis of vegetation, with a stark contrast of sand dunes nearby. Some have likened the area to the Nile River during Cleopatra’s time. It is odd to hear the rapids downstream while surrounded by desert sand dunes, but this stark contrast is what makes the region so incredibly memorable.
The Ozonganda, or main camp, comprises indoor and outdoor areas, a sunken lounge, river bar, library shop, and swimming pool. The lodge is decorated in the Himba style, and the use of red ochre is richly appointed throughout.
There are seven canvas and thatch luxury chalets with private decks. Of these, one is classified as a family chalet that houses four guests. There are six twin chalets as well ,and beds can be converted to doubles upon request. Each chalet has a large en suite bath with indoor and outdoor shower, and large mosquito netting covering the bed creates a romantic air. Each chalet is raised safely off the ground on wooden decking.
