Despite being located in one of the planet’s most inhospitable regions, the Skeleton Coast Camp offers luxury accommodations with some of the most hauntingly beautiful scenery imaginable. Not a location for the faint of heart, the Skeleton Coast Park features extreme temperature changes, arid deserts, salt pans, and shipwrecks while also being home to seal colonies, pockets of desert-adapted wildlife, freshwater springs, and some of the most productive fishing grounds found anywhere.

Accommodations at Skeleton Coast Camp are in six luxury Meru-style tents, housing a maximum of 12 guests. Tents are raised on wooden decks on an island in the Khumib River, and the en suite bathrooms are spacious and offer a shower, wash basin, and toilet. The central lounge, bar, and dining area offer stunning views of the desert, and when the weather is fair, guests can also enjoy outdoor dining under the shade of an old leadwood tree.
This area is not usually visited for game viewing, although there are some desert-adapted species present including oryx, springbok, giraffe, ostrich, Cape fur seals, brown hyena, genet, cheetah, and the rare desert elephant. Bird watching in this area is interesting due to the number of endemic desert species. However, most of the time at the camp is spent exploring the fascinating landscape, with visits to the coast to explore the seal colonies, excursions to see the Himba people, desert elephant tracking, and visits to the dunes, lichen fields, and other amazing geological wonders.
